Had a goto diner that I wanted to eat for lunch, but the bad economy has them limiting their hours. With no idea where food was going to come from a family pulled up in a rv and made tuna sandwiches.

The Cause

I dedicate my Ride Across America to my Mother, Aunt Mo, both my grandmothers, and my second mother Jackie Laskey.

Each of these five had a battle with cancer. While my aunt and my second mother would win their battle, I would lose both of my grandmothers. My Mother would lose her long battle with breast cancer on May 20, 1999.

This ride is about me doing something meaningful with my life for them, since they have already gone above and beyond for me. They have each given me so much, and it’s my turn to show them how much I appreciate the unconditional love they have shown to me.

This ride will test my limits and push me to edge in both body and mind. I am sure that the worst of my discomfort will fail to acquaint me with 1% of the pain they went through during chemotherapy.

All my life I wanted to do something to join the fight against breast cancer, and seeing that I didn’t become a doctor, I figured I would do what I know.

I know fitness, and my degree is in marketing. I plan to use what

I’ve been given to make a real, measureable, difference.

During my ride, I will be wearing a pink ribbon cycling shirt with the names of my loved ones who have been affected by breast cancer. I will also leave space on my bicycle jersey for the name (or names) of anyone you know who has suffered with the destructive effects of cancer.

The names of both those we’ve lost as well as the survivors.

These spaces will be available on my jerseys with proceeds being donated to cancer research.

Its time we end the battle with breast cancer forever. This is my small contribution to helping that happen.

Lance Armstrong said, "If children have the ability to ignore all odds and percentages, then maybe we can all learn from them. When you think about it, what other choice is there but to hope? We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up, or fight like hell"
